Have you ever wondered how to start with a painting? Or you have ever started and then realized you don’t like where you ended up? In today’s lesson, I’ll teach you how to start sketching with watercolor so that your paintings can have a great foundation.

This video will cover the following:

  1. Why sketching matters

  2. Three methods for sketching with watercolor

  3. Sketching a robin

The printables provided for this lesson include:

  • Step-by-step instruction sheets for how to draw a robin and cosmos flower

  • Two sketching experiments

  • One bonus project template

Here are the supplies to grab for this lesson (see this video for more on suggested watercolor materials):

  • Optional: templates printed on watercolor paper or cardstock

  • OR your choice of paper

  • watercolor palette of basic colors

  • mixing surfaces

  • cup or jar of water

  • a small to medium brush

  • pencil and eraser

Subscribers can watch the video below and download the printable templates!
